Before my involvement the project was drawing several elements from the author HP Lovecraft. However many of the elements drawn from the author were misunderstood and provided too many constrains on what the game could be. It quickly became clear to me that we would have to bee far more careful at handling these themes or we would have to reject them entirely.
As stated in my last post (simply titled "Gaze of the Abyss") there were several problems with my initially proposed ending. One of these problems was that a true ending could not be chosen until a decision had been made on the embracing or rejection of these elements. In order to navigate around this I drafted three different story lines. One completely rejected Lovecraft and one completely embraced it. The third took the general themes of Lovecraft's work but removed some of the more specific elements. The team liked this third ending the best and thus I began work on fleshing it out into a complete narrative.
