This is just a brief outline for the plot of a role playing game I was thinking about making a while back. It describes the world and two of the characters. Don't think I'll ever make it in to real story now (I just have too many other projects). Just figured I'd leave it here to show a portion of my writing process. Enjoy. World:
The kingdom of Alsalia’s grip on the land is loosening. Harvests are growing thinner and thinner and the royal family is unable to maintain order in the kingdom. For years they have used a power known as the dragon force to maintain order. However now there are rumors that the dragon force has faded abandoning the royals. True or not anyone can see that the air is thick in the castle as if there was as secret on the edge of the staffs tongues that the long to say but don’t out of fear.
To the north the hunters and mercenaries have become bolder. While they have always been hard to control they are now ignoring imperial rule. These guilds are bound by honor and brother hood. The people in the guilds live simple lives of hunting, fighting and drinking with their other members in the guild halls. They only have two laws be fair with others and respect the land. Violating either of these two will result in the perpetrator facing trial by combat. The guild members answering only to the legendary Valkyrie who is the leader of them all. Legends say that she fought her way to the throne beating each guild leader in combat over the course of a hundred days. The guilds have no desire to conquer but have shown vicious opposition to the government trying to impose their rule upon them. Because of this, the royal family has largely ignored them instead focusing on the threat to the south.
To the south a rebellion has started against the royal family’s rule. At first it was a small group of protesters campaigning for an end to the monarchy. However it soon grew in size and as it grew it became more organized and violent. Now they are a military force controlling much of the south and moving north at rapid speed. They seek to control the entire country with any city they come across surrendering immediately or being massacred. They are currently heading to the capital in the hopes of killing the royal family and taking control of the capital for themselves. Their leader commands the utmost respect using as power similar to the dragon force to crush his foes. In the beginning there were rumors that he was from a distant land and had only recently came to Alsalia. However those rumors have since been silenced and those who spread it have since disappeared. Name: Brovor Description: A 18 year old young man with short brown hair and blue eyes. Backstory:
A young man wakes up in a small cottage far to the north of the capital. He is wearing the clothing of a peasant but remembers nothing of his previous life except his name, Brovor. The family who found him consists of an old man and his granddaughter Celi. They explained how Celi found Brovor next to the river bank. Celi took Brovor back and with the help of her grandfather took care of him till he woke up. After waking up Celi and Brovor became fast friends and it was agreed Brovor would stay with them until he regained his memories. In exchange Brovor agreed to help Celi complete missions for the local guild.
Place in World:
Brovor is a playable character and the main character of the story. At the beginning he is confused and unsure of his surroundings. His main goal is initially to find his memories and return home. However after a while he warms to his surroundings and while still searching for his memories he begins to feel at home with his surroundings.
At the beginning of the game the shop keepers and town’s folk treat him with distrust as he is an outsider. They raise the prices on goods and give him little to no information. However as he completes more jobs for the local guild the towns folk warm up to him treating him with more respect. This also leads to reduced prices from shop keepers and more information from towns folk. As the game goes on Brovor makes friends with new people who join him on his journey and become party members. While these members are initial wary of him they warm up to him over time. Each part member has different goals and desires and they help each other to achieve them over the course of the game
Everything seemed to be going write for Brovor until his village was attacked by beasts. Thin occurred as the Valkyrie refused to aid the rebellion in the south. In response the leader of the rebellion sent a spy into the north in order to undo an ancient seal and freeing hundreds of beasts. During the battle Brovor and his party are over run and almost parish until Brovor hears a voice form inside his head offering help. Brovor reaches out inside his mind and accepts the help. The moment he accepts the help a great magical energy is released and Brovor is given extreme power. With this power he is easily able to defeat the beasts.After the battle Brovor’s memories flood back into him. It is revealed that he is a prince next in line to the throne. He remembers that before he lost his memories he lived above everyone and lorded his rule over them. He silenced any that stood against him and commandeered his army to crush any that stood against him. Two years ago he commanded a great army in the hopes of retaking the north. In the insuring battle hundreds died on both sides including Celi’s parents. In addition to this his old self now lingers in the back of his mind occasionally whispering to him and taunting him. Bovor refuses to acknowledge this voice as himself and ignores it.
After the beasts are repelled the town’s folk ostracize Brovor because of his connection to the royal family. He is put out onto the streets as Celi no longer wants anything to do with him and his party members become distant feeling as though he isn’t the person they thought he was. However only a day later a strange decease sweeps over the town. Everyone that was bit or scratched by the beasts have gone into a comma. This leaves Brovor and his party as the only warriors left unharmed. Reluctantly they agree to team up with Brovor in search for a cure.
Over the course of the next week the party searches for a cure. Brovor is torn at this time trying to come to terms with his past and reconnect with his friends all while being taunted by his past self. Eventually they find that the cure is on a mountain that has since been taken over by rebel forces. The group has no time to sneak around as the villagers are extremely sick and are likely to die before they secured the position. They instead decide to rush the mountain in the hopes that the guards won’t be able to mobilize in time. They are quickly overwhelmed and surrounded. Brovor attempts to use the dragon force but finds that he cant because his other self is blocking it. The party is forced to flee but just when all hope is lost Celi revealed that she had grabbed the flower required to make the cure and the village is saved.
After the fight Brovor finds out that the rebels plan to make a push for the capital and the reason they were attacking the north was to bully them into aiding in the assault. This leaves Brovor conflicted between staying in the north and helping rebuild the village or going south to save his family. Eventually he chooses to save his family and asks the members of the guilds to help him. However even though the villagers are grateful to Brovor they still don’t fully trust him again. A few others even want to banish him but the Valkyrie comes to his aid. She reminds them how Brovor was the same as he was since they meet him and that they now owe him a great debt. She agrees to lend Brovor the full support of the guilds in protecting the capital.
Brovor marches with the guilds to the capital and arrives to find it already in flames. The capitals forces are still fighting the rebels but they are being pushed back. The Valkyrie charges in with her forces while Brovor and his party charges into the castle. They arrive just in time to prevent the rebels’ leader, Valdeir, from murdering the royal family. Valdeir and Brovo’s party begin to fight with Valdeir using a power similar to the dragon force. Valdeir reveals that he was from a distant land that his family ruled many generations ago. However his land feel into famine and now is in a state of ruin. Knowing this he then came to Alsalia in the hope of starting a rebellion and concurring it.
During the fight Brovro is constantly being nagged at by his past self trying to convince him that they are one and the same person. Broveor refuses to acknowledge his past self as he sees him as cruel and selfish. But his past self then points out that what he was doing right now was selfish. He abandoned the north to save his family and brought many of the guild members with him just to die. He said that even the fact that Brovor was resisting him is evidence of his selfishness as he was choosing his pride over the power to save people. Brover realizes that he is selfish and acknowledges his past self as being part of him. When this happens his past self disappears and he is free to use the dragon force as pleases.
With the dragon force on their side the party is able to defeat Valdeir and save the kingdom. After the battle Brovor convinces his parents to give the north Sovereignty which they agreed to as they couldn’t control the north anyway and they would make good trade partners. The Valkyrie gives Brovor and the rest of his party citizenship to her new nation. Brovor realizes that he doesn’t need to choose which world to live in and decides to live in both the countries visiting them both at different times of the year.
Name: Celi
Description: A 19 year old girl with long blond hair tied in a ponytail and brown eyes.
Backstory:
Celi grew up with her family in the mountains of the north. She lived with her parents and was happy. He parents were both members of their local guild taking easy jobs in order to support the family. Her parents would often tell her stories of their adventures. She idolized them and hoped to be a part of the guild too when she was older. However when she was 16 the capital sent a army to the north in the hope of gaining control of the guilds. The soldiers came into their town in order to disband the local guild and make the former members swear their allegiance to the king.
Tensions in the town escalated until villagers started throwing rocks at the soldiers. The soldiers responded and the incident quickly turned into a massacre. The soldiers began hunting down the guild members to arrest them. Celi and her parents attempt to flee to her grandfather’s place but are intercepted by soldiers. Celi’s father tells Celi and her mother to run as he tries to hold them off. However Celi’s mother refuses to abandon him and tells Celi to run as she stays back and fights with him. Celi reaches her grandfather’s house safely and waits for her parents the rest of the night but they never arrive.
Celi lived with grandfather for the next 3 years. During that time the soldiers were repelled and the guilds ruled again. Celi still kept her dream of being a guild member and did small jobs for the local guild but could not find anyone to team up with to complete larger ones. One day she was getting water for grandfather she found an unconscious young man lying next to the river bank. She carried him home to her home and nursed him to help. He introduced himself as Brovor and agreed to go on missions to her.
Place in World:
Celi is an non playable character that is a member of the player’s party. She is the first party member that the player meets. When she initially meet Brovor they quickly become best friends. As they go on adventures together she begins to find herself growing attached to Brovor. She contemplates these feelings for a while but then realizes that she sees him more as a brother than as a romantic partner. However she cuts herself off from him when his background is revealed and she finds out he had a hand in her village’s raid.
She is conflicted between their sense of brotherhood and her anger over her parents’ death. While adventuring to find the cure for the village she learned to forgive him and ends up grabbing the flower needed to cure the village.She then goes with Brovor back to the village and helps to convince the guilds to aid Brovor. She then joins him in the battle against the rebels. After the battle she leaves the capital with Brovor and they both return to the village to rebuild.
